The above is based on a photo a friend took of Walden Pond.  (edit: original photo resides here.)

I've never been there myself, but something about his picture clicked both with my recent attempts to learn to paint, and the awesome colors I've been seeing just since Halloween. (Seriously, the colors were really just average, and then since Friday they've put out this extra burst of awesome.)

I've been test driving color restriction as a tactic for painting, as I have a problem with trying to be too realistic and tiny. ( I wind up spending twelve hours on a patch the size of my thumb, which is just exhausting.) This picture uses six colors. Well, technically, I suppose it uses eleven. I only used five colors for the leaves, but I put them on two different layers and desaturated one of the layers. Bonus: I was done in two hours. Maybe I'm loosening up?
