Wowphabet: Z

Surprise! Saturday post!

I thought an ensemble piece would be appropriate for the last.

Thanks to the person who suggested Zul'jin, by the way. I like this much better than my original plan, which was 'Zorched by a Zhevra'. Although an imaginary rarespawn fire-breathing zhevra would probably have been fun, it's not exactly cannon.

Also, thanks to everyone.  It's been extremely gratifying looking over my statistics tracking page and seeing you all coming to visit. I'm going to take a bit of a break now (because you know what I haven't been doing while I've been doing the Wowphabet? Playing WoW.) but I plan on having something new up here by the first. As always, I'd love to here any ideas or suggestions you have. I might even draw them.

Heeheehee. I like drawing helplessly kicking feet.

Somewhere during this Wowphabet drawing process, I seem to have learned how to draw Blizzard-style fur. I remember banging my head against the problem of converting Blizzard fuzz (the kind where it's actually just a texture, and has no 'physical' existence) to my particular drawing style somewhere around H, but it seems to have worked itself out. I didn't even think about it until the Yeti's fur was almost done.

I can't be the only one who thinks warpstalkers are so cute. They've got this great dragon/dog/alligator thing going on. Plus they're proportioned as and move like a little critter, even if they are kind of a big critter.

Once again, I'm taking some license with what's shown in-game. No, warpstalkers don't actually whap people with their tails. But they could. If they wanted to.

Surprise is part of why I keep drawing. If ever I could accurately predict the outcome of any drawing at the sketch stage, I think I'd give up at that point. But I've been drawing with a semi-professional attitude for about fifteen years now, and it hasn't happened yet.

Case in point: I expected the Voidwalker to suck. I have my list, and I'd been dreading the V near the bottom because while I wanted to do a Voidwalker, I thought the drawing would be both hard in execution and dissapointing in presentation.  Instead, I had the sort of lovely drawing experience that I've called 'being on', or 'flow' but can really best describe as something like lucid dreaming. I sat down, I put my audio on, and got to work. When I took my headphones off, it was done.

This was my second idea, right after the murlocs. :D

We're getting down to brass tacks now. I do have a plan for the remainder of the alphabet, but my backlog is gone, and frankly some of the remaining letters are less than inspired.

So I'm taking suggestions. Does anyone have any good adjective/NPC pairings for V, W, X, Y, or Z? Hell, I'd even take methods of death for specific race/class combos.

Anybody got any requests?

Wowphabet: S

We're going to pretend it's generosity, and not lack of ability to sing the alphabet song that led me to post S and T within a few hours of each other.

I like the female orc dodge, it's very realistic. That's the exact same move I pull when my brain says 'shit that's glass!' after I drop something.

Okay, so I had to stretch a little for this one, but I still think it works.

Also, quillboar are fun to draw. Sort of humorous and sort of evil at the same time.

Okay, so I didn't do this when I went through the Dark Portal and saw a pitlord for the first time, but I totally thought about it.

Lesson learned: Critters defined by white space (as opposed to black line) are hard.

Tangentially, I really like the male nelf sneaking walk. It's not my favorite though... I think male trolls are yet sneakier.

The promised letter M. This is in fact the letter that started it all, as my boyfriend and I were sitting around one evening, playing WoW, and somehow one of us said 'M is for Mary, murdered by Murlocs.' We stared at each other for a moment, and then the snickering began.

Two weeks later, I posted the first entry in this series.

Oops, was that the fourth wall? Good thing I'm not on an RP server.

Heads up kids: I'm going on an actual factual vacation this weekend, and I'm not coming back until Wednesday. Surely, you can live without letter M until then?

Do you think Illidan gets particularly pissed when someone who's clearly not qualified shows up and tries to kick his ass? I do.

Also, this image caused a dent in my desk. A dent made by my HEAD.

In related news, smoke, fire, and scorch marks are hard to draw.

Those of you who are exclusively Horde may have missed Hogger.  He's the very first elite available Alliance-side. So you run in to him before you have any idea of what 'elite' really means. Hilarity ensues.
